Occupational First Aid

Course aim
This 3 day course is designed to provide the student with the knowledge, practical skills and understanding required to provide and co-ordinate first aid in the work-place in compliance with the requirements of the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act (General Application) Regulations 2007: Part 7, Chapter 2: first Aid and the associated guide to those regulations. The course will ensure that employees in the workplace are aware of First Aid facilities and arrangements and to provide a recognized Occupational First Aid workplace system.

Who should apply
Anyone interested in becoming an Occupational First Aiders in the workplace. Successful participants are certified as Occupational First Aiders in accordance with current Health & Safety Legislation.

Course content
The course will provide you with a comprehensive knowledge and skills of Occupational First Aid.

It includes:
  • Introduction
  • Assessment, Accident Scene Management
  • Traumatic stress
  • Circulation, Wounds and Bleeding
  • Respiration
  • C.P.R. & A.E.D. Training
  • Unconsciousness
  • Fractures, Sprains, Strains and dislocations
  • Medical Emergencies, Crush and Spinal Injuries
  • Burns and Scalds, Chemical/poisons, Electric Shock

Course certification
This course will be run as a FETAC Certified course. Delegates who wish to achieve a FETAC component certificate must;

  • Demonstrate Basic Life Saving Skills 40%
  • Be assessed on other Occupational First Aid Skills 30%
  • Complete a Written Exam 30%

Successful participants are certified as Occupational First Aiders in accordance with current Health & Safety Legislation. Following successful completion you will receive a FETAC Level 5 Minor Award in Occupational First Aid (D20188).
The Further Education and Training Awards Council (FETAC) is the national awarding body for further education and training in Ireland. New Approach Trainingis registered with FETAC to offer programmes leading to FETAC awards in the National Framework of Qualifications in Ireland.
There is an accreditation / examination fee of €25.
